This is a great old-time specimen of pyrite on hematite from a classic, long-closed locality: Italy's Elba Island. The pyrite crystal measures 1.7", and is brilliantly lustrous with a metallic, brassy gold color. The crystal is sharply formed and undamaged, with several interesting hoppered step growth sections. The contrast with the dark gray hematite matrix is superb.
