Lazulite is a RARE PHOSPHATE mineral that is only found in good crystals in a couple of places in the world. The premiere locality for lazulite is the RAPID CREEK site in the YUKON TERRITORY, CANADA - a site now closed by the Canadian government. Mining this material was quite a challenge, due to the short summer season close to the Arctic Circle and the incredible distance from the nearest civilization. The guy who held the claim (who I met out in TUCSON) had to fly in by helicopter with all his supplies, then came down river by boat when he was out of food and had mined enough material. While this made the price high, this incredibly beautiful material made it all worthwhile. The crystals are PYRAMID-LIKE prisms, with MIRRORED SURFACES. The color is an incredible DARK BLUE that is so dark it is near-impossible to photograph. This specimen also includes some nice brown SIDERITE crystals.
