This KYANITE specimen has exceptionally long, bladed crystals in a luscious sapphire-like blueberry blue color. It comes from the mines in Chapada Diamantina, Serra de Mangabeira, Bahia, Brazil. Kyanite comes in many shades of blue, from very pale washed out sky blue to a deep, vibrant blueberry blue. I found this piece at the Tucson Gem Rock and Mineral Show, where one of the Brazilian dealers had a large table in his display which he completely covered with fine, top quality examples of this eye-catching blue mineral.
