FLUORITE (and especially PHANTOM FLUORITE) from the world-famous Denton Mine in Hardin County, Illinois has become highly collectible. After the last of the southern Illinois mines closed in 1993, the pipeline was so filled with fluorite that it took almost 15 years before the supply started to dry up. Today, prices have skyrocketed, so I was very pleased to find one dealer who had a flat of good, sharp crystals with distinct phantoms that he was offering for a still-reasonable price. In the future, prices for fine specimens like these will undoubtedly continue to climb.
