Here is an intriguing specimen of terminated calcite crystals which are covered with a thin coating of light tan quartz.  This combination is called an encrustration pseudomorph.  Here the calcite crystals are textbook perfect, double terminated scalenohedral forms (also known as dogtooth calcite). Remarkably, the calcite is undamaged, and the coating is not chipped or scratched except on the edges.
