When petrified wood is sliced and polished, the results can be attractive and highly dramatic.  This is a great example of this natural beauty.  Petrified wood is a fossil that forms when trees are buried in sediment, protecting them from decay. Groundwater that is rich in dissolved silica or other minerals saturates the tree, and replaces the original bark and wood.  This piece exhibits every minute detail of the bark, wood and cellular structures, preserved as agate in white, tan, brown and gray colors.  There is no damage.
