Here is a gorgeous specimen of red & white calcite from China, in the classic trigonal nailhead habit. The color is clear to white, with red coloration applied by hematite-rich solution that flowed through the crystal pocket, coating one side only. The contrast is outstanding, and the crystals are piled up in tall spires that are highly sculptural. Note that the red color is on the back side of the crystals, away from the flow of the liquid that carried the hematite in solution. It settled n the back because of the swirling eddies which were on the back side, where the liquid slowed down enough that it had time to settle. This is a one-of-a-kind specimen with absolutely no damage.
