Here is a superb specimen of the rare mineral bixbyite, on a contrasting white rhyolite matrix. The bixbyite crystal is sharply formed and has a flashy shiny metallic black color. The corners are modified by octahedral faces which truncate the corners with a single flat face.  For this species, this crystal is good sized. This specimen comes from the premiere locality for bixbyite in the world.
