AUSTINITE is a RARE ARSENATE OF CALCIUM AND ZINC that forms in the zone of alteration in hydrothermal replacement deposits, where it occurs in cavities in massive limonite. It is found in good crystals at only a handful of mines in the world: the famous GOLD HILL MINE in DUGWAY, TOOLE COUNTY, UTAH produces the world's finest specimens. I acquired this fine specimen at the TUCSON GEM & MINERAL SHOW in February from a mineral wholesaler from Seattle who had mined this material himself back in the early 80's. He was selling his minerals at great prices, and because I was buying direct from the source, I got this at a very reasonable price for such an rare mineral.
