Here's a fabulous specimen of a stream-smoothed DIAMOND from the alluvial diamond deposits in the Kasai River, Tshikapa, Western Kasai Province, D.R. Congo. Diamond is the hardest substance on earth and is used for industrial purposes (mostly cutting) as well as for jewelry. While this stone is not fit for jewelry, it is a super specimen showing excellent adamantine (pearly) luster, and nice yellow-green color. I acquired this specimen-quality diamond this year from a French dealer who was set up at the Tucson Gem Rock and Mineral Show. He is a retired mine engineer who spent his working years in the Congo, and then returned to France with the collection he had amassed over many years. This crystal came out of his collection.
