Here is an impressive example of an AMETHYST FLOWER from Irai, Alto Uruguai Region, Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil. These unusual formations grow in lava (basalt), and after they are mined it can take a full day for a worker to gently pick away the matrix off of the flower using a dental pick. To find ones that are perfect is a very rare occurrence because of the difficulty in removing them intact. I found this specimen out at the Tucson Gem, Rock & Mineral Show in Arizona.
