6.6" 1170ct Polished Slice MultiColor Triangles LIDDICOATITE TOURMALINE for sale
Availability: In Stock
Here is a beautiful example of the rare variety of tourmaline known as liddicoatite; it has been thinly sliced, and polished on both sides to reveal the internal nested triangles characteristic of liddicoatite. The triangles are especially striking when the slice is backlit, practically glowing in different shades of pink, blue, yellow and green. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this unusual variety of tourmaline. This exceptionally aesthetic slice was cut from a huge, thick liddicoatite crystal with a fascinating history. It was unearthed in Madagascar in 1948, made its way to the U.S. to the Smithsonian, disappeared for over three decades, and was rediscovered in 2011, and was the subject of an article in Rocks & Minerals magazine in the July/August 2013 issue.
