6.1" 183g MultiNested Triangles LIDDICOATITE TOURMALINE Madagascar 1948 for sale
Availability: In Stock
Here is a great slice of the rare liddicoatite variety of tourmaline. It has been polished on both sides to reveal the distinctive internal nested triangles of liddicoatite. The triangles are colored in various shades of ranging from dark green to light green to clear to pink. Each change of color shows up as a triangular shaped band, one nested inside another in the center of the slice. The triangles are caused by color zoning (not phantoms). This is a museum-quality specimen of this interesting tourmaline variety. It was unearthed in Madagascar in 1948, made its way to the U.S. to the Smithsonian, disappeared for over three decades, and was rediscovered in 2011.
