This is an exceptional specimen of golden yellow MIMETITE crystals from the Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, Thailand. Mimetite is a minor ore of lead, and in this case the mineral is colored a nice rich golden yellow. Mimetite is most often found in botryoidal aggregates and crystallized crusts, but occasionally the crystals are elongated and have grown as single crystals and in multiple crystal sprays or fans of very sharp individual crystals, almost completely covering the vuggy surface of the limonite matrix. Thai mimetites came from a one-time find in the mid 1990s. The best specimens from the find have a wet luster, and are colored a vivid yellow and/or orange colors. The very well defined barrel-shaped crystals are mostly doubly terminated, and are very transparent. No more of these find mimetites have been found since the original discovery.
