Replacement pseudomorphs form when a second mineral substitutes for the original mineral, molecule by molecule, keeping the exact crystal form of the first one. This is a superb example, where malachite has substituted for the original azurite, yielding sharp crystals of malachite that look like wedge-shaped azurite crystals. This specimen came out of the Milpillas Mine in 2008, before the area that yielded these beauties was mined out.
