4.4" Highly Lustrous Vivid Green DIOPTASE Crystals to .6" in Vug Congo for sale
Availability: In Stock
This highly aesthetic specimen of DIOPTASE comes from an old find at the Kimpese Mine, Lukasi, Katanga Province, D.R.Congo. Dioptase is an uncommon mineral, found in good crystals in only a few localities. The old material from the Congo is some of the most beautiful dioptase I have seen, rivaling the color and sharpness of dioptase from Tsumeb, and is much more richly colored than the crystals from Altyn-Tyube. This is another new treasure which we picked out from the collection of a German dealer who set up in one of the tents at the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines show.
Crystals form this classic locality, which first produced specimens beginning in the 1950s, are highly sought after by collectors. The mine prospect are situated 3 km north of the village of Reneville. The largest mine was the Indus, with the Amelie workings located 200 meters north and an adit to the south called the Bel. Reportedly only the Indus produced any significant specimens.
