Here is a classic, prismatic, lustrous, metallic single stibnite crystal from the Ichinokawa mine, the Japanese locality that has set the standard for this species for over a century. The best specimens were found in the late 1800s. This crystal is complete all around. It has pronounced parallel striations along the sides and steep pyramidal terminations at both ends. The terminations are nearly complete, and the sides have only a couple of low-key nicks. Specimens like this are almost never available, as the mine closed in the 1950s, and people who have them in their collections hold onto them. From an old collection that was put together between the 1930s and 1960s by Carey Melville, a professor at Clark University. Old hand-written label included.
