This sillimanite is a fine specimen from New Hampshire, where a friend of mine collects these crystals on his property. The gemmy crystals have weathered part-way out of schist, are up to .7", and are colored a pastel blue. This alumino-silicate mineral was named for Benjamin Silliman, 1779-1864, who many consider the father of modern American mineralogy.
