3.8" 15 Sharp BOLEITE Shiny Cubic Crystals to 4mm on Matrix-Baja Mexico for sale
Availability: In Stock
Here's a very important, bountifully crystallized specimen of the rare mineral BOLEITE on a clay matrix from Santa Rosalia (El Boleo), Boleo District, Mun. de Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico. This piece features many exceptionally sharp cubic crystals on matrix from the premiere locality in the world for this species. Because the matrix is relatively soft, matrix specimens are very rare, and matrix specimens with multiple crystals even rarer; on this piece there are 15 bright, lustrous crystals, including one set of three penetrating twins (triplets?). The crystals are undamaged, and their super-saturated indigo blue color provides an excellent contrast with the pale tan/ivory matrix. This is one of the finest multiple-crystal matrix boleite specimens I've seen available. Now, the the mine has been closed for decades, and attempts to reopen it for ore production (or specimen mining) have failed. So,top-quality specimens like this one will only be available when old collections are recycled. In Tucson this year, I found an Arizona dealer who had set aside a couple of flats of these many years ago. Sadly, the ones I picked from are the last of his stash.
