Here is an amber gemstone, a polished piece of amber that has been shaped into an oval cabochon and polished to a high luster. Inside the amber is a black ant, trapped in the fossilized tree sap when it was oozing out of a tree during the Miocene age, some 25 million years ago. The amber is a colorful, rich golden yellow, and it is gem clear, making it easy to see the trapped insect, which is perfectly preserved. I acquired this gorgeous jewel in the Dominican Republic in 1988, and it has been in my collection since then.
