These PHANTOM QUARTZ crystals came from the Coleman Brothers Mine in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Phantoms occur after a crystal stops growing, then is coated with a white clay (or other mineral), which is trapped inside when the crystal resumed growing, depositing a new layer of clear quartz which completely surrounds the original crystal. I acquired this fine crystal at the Tucson Gem Rock and Mineral Show this year.
Here's a group of sharply terminated phantom quartz crystals with lovely, distinct, ghostly white phantoms inside the clear crystals. I rarely see phantom quartz from Arkansas, but this one is a beauty. The crystals have sharp terminations and excellent, easy-to-see ghostly white phantoms lurking inside the clear crystals.
