1.3" EarthyOrange BASTNAESITE-Ce Termnated.6" Crystal onMatrix Pakistan for sale
Availability: In Stock
This is a rare 1/2" Bastnaesite-Ce crystal on matrix from Pakistan - something you almost never see. The crystal is short and has a flat, basal pinacoid termination that is smooth and glassy and about 95% complete (but it is not damaged). The color is an earthy orange, and the crystal is somewhat gemmy with transparent areas. 5 of the 6 sides of the crystal are present, and they are also lustrous and mirror bright. The edges are all razor sharp, and the crystal is perfectly symmetrical. The Bastnaesite has grown on a matrix of clear, sparkling Riebeckite crystals, in a shallow vug on matrix.
Here is an excellent specimen of the very rare cerium carnonate mineral BASTNAESITE-Ce from Zegi Mountain, Khyber Agency, Fata, Pakistan. Until Zegi Mountain (also spelled Zagi) came along, the Trimouns Quarry in France was the best locality for this rare mineral. This new locality has set a new, much higher standard for crystal size, sharpness, and quality. We picked up this fine piece at the Tucson Gem, Rock & Mineral Show from one of the many Pakistani dealers who set up there. Specimens of this quality are rarely seen, but luckily I was one of the first buyers to show up in this dealer's room, so I immediately snapped up this gorgeous crystal, still on its original matrix.
