.4" Sharp BOLEITE ShinyCompleteCubic Crystal on 3.0" Matrix Baja Mexico-for sale
Availability: In Stock
This exemplary crystal of BOLEITE set on a clay matrix comes from The Amelia Mine, Santa Rosalia (El Boleo), Boleo District, Mun. de Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The large size of this crystal (0.4") is exceptional for crystals of this rare halide mineral from the premiere locality in the world for this species. Because the host rock is relatively soft, matrix specimens like this are very rare. The crystal is an super-saturated indigo blue color that stands out nicely against the tan matrix. There are no chips or breakage on the crystal, which two beveled corners plus a triangular indentation where another crystal probably sat. Since the the mine has been closed for decades, in spite of attempts to reopen it for either specimens or ore, top-quality specimens like this one only become available when old collections are sold to dealers. I purchased this fine and important specimen at the Tucson Gem Rock and Mineral Show this year from an Arizona dealer who had set aside a couple of flats of these many years ago. Sadly, he told me that the ones he had are the last of his stash.
